It's all about Him!

So many times when God tries to teach us a lesson, our first response is “But I—”. It seems like every time I try to get away with that excuse a little voice pops into my head “It’s not about you!”. And the little voice is right; it’s not about me. It is about God. What I want, what I think, what I desire is really quite irrelevant. Who cares what I think! It is God’s commands, God’s desires that matter.

Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 continues this idea, “For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.” It is Christ who lives, not me. Therefore it also must be Christ who controls my life, not me. What right do I have to choose what I do? “For by Him all things were created.”1, “You alone are the LORD; You have made …the earth and everything on it…and You preserve them all.”2 Not only has He made us, but He also preserves us. Without Him we cannot exist. He has also bought us back. “You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men.”3

He clearly owns us and has the right to rule our lives—He created us, preserves us and bought us back. 1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us that whatever we do, no matter how seemingly insignificant, should be done for God’s glory. Revelation 4:11 reminds us that Our Lord is worthy of all glory, honor and power, because He created everything, in fact “for thy pleasure they are and were created.”4 We were made for Him, to glorify Him. One way we can do this is by recognizing and submitting to His sovereign authority, by acknowledging His right to rule our lives and to do whatever He wants to with us.

He is God. He has all power and authority over everyone and everything. We need to bow before Him in humility, worshipping Him and acknowledging that it really is all about Him.
